Services provided by Web Server

Web Client (Browser) -Web Server -Services provided by Web Server

Web Client and web Server are the two parts of Client-Server Connection, in Client-Server Architecture a web client is any computer system that requests information or data to the Web server and a web server is that, which provides the information's or data to the client PC.

Generally, A Web Server is a computer system that is used to designed to accept web client requests and provided the information requested to the Client.

Uniform Resource Locator (URL) :

Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is the Web address of documents and the World Wide Web.
Uniform Resource Locator (URL) address has two parts, the first part of the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) address is called a protocol identifier, using protocol identifier we can easily identify the which protocol is used to a particular web address. The second part of the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) address is called a resource name, identify the IP address (Internet Protocol address) or domain name.

The protocol identifier and the resource name (IP address (Internet Protocol address) or domain name) are separated by a colon (:) and two forward slashes(//).

For Example:

What does Dial-Up Connection mean?

A dial-up connection uses a standard phone line and an analog modem to access the Internet at data transfer rates (DTR) of up to 56 Kbps.

It is considered as the least expensive way to access Internet however, it offers one of the slowest connection.

We must keep in mind, that a dial - up connection is established when two or more communication devices rely on a public switched telephone network ( PSTN ) to connect with an Internet Service Provider, also called as ISP.

A dial - up connection is beneficial for remote areas in particular, as it has been observed that broadband & cable are usually not easily available in such areas with low population.

ISPs are a boon for many subscribers especially for the one, who are budget conscious, because it often offers free dial up connections.

What is a leased line connection?

When we talk about a leased line we must be mindful of the fact, that it is a dedicated fixed -bandwidth data connection. Since the connection is rented by the Internet Service Providers directly to the business , so the term leased has been incorporated.

A leased line must be symmetrical, uncontended & it has to be from point to point.

What are the advantages of leased lines?

It has some major advantages stated below:

  • It offers high symmetric speeds, signifying better connectivity as well as faster uploads & downloads.
  • Leased lines are extremely reliable.
  • Leased lines are pretty flexible.
  • With leased lines you get a powerful customer support & a good setup. For instance, If you go for EoFTTC package, you receive round the clock support from their experts.

What are the disadvantages of leased lines?

Major disadvantages of leased lines are mentioned below:

  • They usually take a fair bit of time to get installed.
  • The cost seems to be on the higher side, when compared with alternative sources.

How fast is a leased line connection?

Leased lines start from around 10Mbps connections and scale all the way up to 10Gbps.

Can I increase my leased line speeds in the future?

The speed of leased lines can be increased , but for that it is imperative to have space on the bearer line

Differences between dial-up (modem) connection and leased line connection:

Dial-up (modem) connection:
  • A Dial-up connection is not always active.
  • A Dial-up connection is asynchronous communications.
  • It is less costly.
  • It is commonly used by Home User.

Leased line connection:
  • A leased line connection is always active.
  • A leased line connection is synchronous communications.
  • A leased line connection is costly, user-pay rent to service provider.
  • It is commonly used in Offices & Business.

What’s the difference between a leased line and broadband?

A leased line is a dedicated, uncontended connection between your premises and the local exchange. It’s  meant only for your business.

When we talk about  Broadband , then we must keep in mind that broadband isn’t a dedicated connection. Broadband is shared with other people as well.

Conclusion :

For the purpose of accessing & viewing web sites a web browser is a must. So, Web Browser plays an important role. We must remember, that Web client & web servers are two parts of client - server connection.
