When Sputnik was launched on October 4, 1957 by the Soviets, it became evident that this war/competition between these two giants will intensify further.

The modern-day internet services that we have been witnessing can be traced, with the way internet has been developed from research grants by US department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Scientist wanted to ensure that communication links between distant locations remains intact, in case electricity route gets destroyed. Cutting edge research motivated US research units to implement internet.

This program grew up in the 60's and ’70's which took the shape of a network of computers, capable of transmitting information by packet switching.

In order to negate the technological advancement of Russians, USA decided to set up Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA).

The primary objective of ARPA was to carry out innovative research with an intention to make technical impacts to create prototype systems.

The father of modern-day networking, Leonard Kleinrock stated that, ARPA wanted a mechanism and deploy a network, so that its researchers can share each other's specialized resources.

ARPANET adopted TCP/IP on the 1st of January 1983 and from here on researchers began to assemble “Network of Networks” that eventually became modern internet.

The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) can be regarded as an early packet switching network to have implemented the protocol suite TCP/IP which went on to become the foundation of the modern-day Internet.

Internet has been in charge of our life for quite sometime now. It has been dictating terms & conditions to us. We are left with no other option, but to follow the diktat of Internet,  as it makes our life easier. It has got a positive as well as a negative shade attached to it. It is beneficial as well counter productive , varies from case to case.

We need to appreciate the fact that Internet keeps us awake. It enables us to keep in touch with all the latest developments taking place across the globe.

It is evident in today's world it is no longer considered a luxury rather it is an essential service which helps us in every sphere of life.

Till the time we manage to find a formidable replacement for Internet , we will have to utilize the services of Internet for various activities pertaining to our day to day life.

We must be wary that Internet provides a perfect platform to individuals, who are into fradulent activities. Digital frauds which includes email frauds & foreign lotteries are fairly common. Even for Phising attack Internet is a must. Since there is very little means available to verify the contents posted via Internet, so the victims is always vulnerable & remains a soft target.

Facebook, Twitter handle, Instagram, WhatsApp etc acts as a tool to facilitate social media which needs Internet connection to function , but these mediums of expression also makes people hooked on to such web platforms or applications & stimulates circulation of fake news.

It's a tough call to make whether Internet is a boon or a bane. If used for a proper cause one can derive a lot out of Internet , but if we misuse it then surely it is more of a curse for us.

We can sum up by saying that, users will have the final say in taking a call regarding the importance of Internet & it's negative impacts.

The choice depends on choosing the things. Judicious use is recommended.
