You may not know the fact that a parliamentary panel has recommended that the Union Home Ministry encourage the state Governments to spot the cyber hotspots in respective states and also make it a point to maintain a data profile on the cyber crimes taking place in those hotspots. Surely this is a healthy recommendation and is likely to send a strong message to cyber criminals to keep their hands off from such cyber crimes. Whether it will yield the expected outcome will be determined by a lot of other factors including the level of commitment by concerned officials in checking such crimes. This is going to be a welcome step undoubtedly.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs which is being headed by BJP MP Mr Brijlal has noted that although a boom in internet connectivity has been experienced in the country despite this fact, a section of the population in various states and Union Territories may be having minimal access due to lot of reasons. A lot of people will perhaps have no hesitation in agreeing to this opinion because there seem to be certain areas where internet connectivity is either poor or very limited.

The committee has strongly recommended that the ministry encourage state governments to identify cyber hotspots in their respective state and there is a tremendous need to maintain data profile on the cyber crimes in those hotspots. The committee is also of the opinion that measures must be taken to contain or curb those crimes," the panel said in its report submitted to Parliament. This is important in order to identify and trace such criminals. This will set the alarm ringing and cybercriminals will have very little breathing space. This is a very good recommendation likely to keep the criminals at bay to some degree, if not entirely.

The committee therefore, recommended that there is a need for the police force to adopt various strategies like publicizing its achievements in the meetings of the community, village, and district-level committees after regular intervals for increasing the police-people interaction, organizing awareness weeks and Jan Sabhas, among others. This is likely to spread more awareness & is going to generate more confidence amongst the general public.
