May be some of us are hearing this term for the first time while some may be familiar with this term. It is said, one third of Americans suffer from Digital amnesia. So surely, it warrants lot of attention. The people who are associated or part of medical fraternity they know for a fact, it is dangerous and can lead to severe physical and mental complications.

Before, we proceed ahead with this article, we would like to request all our esteemed readers to kindly go through this article till the end. It is important for everyone to be aware and alert since we are heavily dependent on technical devices and most of the users are hooked to such devices which can have a strong negative bearing on us.

Are digital devices capable of diminishing our memory ? We do use computers, tablets and smart phones pretty frequently due to our personal or official needs. A survey has mentioned in it's findings that 82 % percent of the parents will have difficulty in remembering their child's phone number. Nearly two third of the people will have a tough time, if they have to call their parents referring to the number stored in their brain memory,  over 3/4th don't know their managers number. These are mere figures or ratio for lot of people , but these are also a kind of wake up call for us.

At the outset, we wish to make it absolutely clear that the purpose behind publishing this article is not to discourage people from using technical devices like mobile. We know very well that in today's world mobile phone is more of a necessity than a luxury. The same goes true for bulk of the technical devices including computers.  Therefore, in such a scenario we all are dependent on it irrespective of the fact, we prefer it or not. Yes, you can show some restraint while using it, by this we mean to say, you can and you must keep a tab on your screen time. You may be thinking,  why so ? This article will throw more light on this.

Medically speaking, Digital amnesia can be described as a phenomenon where our brains are fast losing their ability to remember things owing to the fact,  that we are relying heavily on technical gadgets or devices to retain data. Some of us may not consider it to be something we should be wary of, but in reality it's consequences could impact us severely.

A large number of people coming under the age group of 40 - 50 are experiencing memory loss. If you forget something once or twice that's understandable, as our brain is engaged with lot of different task at the same time. The problem worsen when it happens frequently. As long as it's an one off incident till that point, it is considered normal however , if it keeps on happening on a regular basis then it is a matter of concern.

Of late, due to pandemic our social interactions have declined to a great extent. People are forced to stay inside home which has hit our social life. This fact, may also be attributed to Digital amnesia in some cases.  When you are all alone or surrounded by less people , you tend to experience boredom which prompts you to use technical devices  like mobile phone and it eventually adds to your screen time which is of course a key reason that leads to Digital amnesia.

Human beings are social animals , when they are subjected to aloofness then they look to engage themselves someway or the other. Since mobile phone is available round the clock therefore, they tend to use it more often in such a scenario. Smartphone addiction could impair our brains capacity to retain and form new memories. We usually do lot of activities at one go in mobile phone. This creates an hurdle in learning new skills, as we are partially focused. There is a strong possibility, such information or knowledge will not get stored in our long term memory.

Smart phone addiction is likely to interrupt sleep. When you deprive yourself from sleep or stop leading a healthy life , chances are there, you will be subjected to physical and mental illness. Too much reliance or over use of mobile phone pose a serious threat to our health. The impact may or may not be visible straightway, but the long term effect will be detrimental to our health. We should be wary of this fact.

Where lies the solution then . If you can do complete detox for a fixed period of time then it will be great . Assuming, it is not possible owing to the nature of your occupation or profession then you must try to stay away from mobile phone when it is not required. Try turning off your device or putting it in airplane mode.

Remember, deficiencies in Vitamin B12 & B1 can impact your brain negatively. Certain other practices like eating balanced diet comprising of fats and proteins helps your brain to function well. Doing exercise keeps you physically and mentally fit so you can incorporate this point as well. Sound sleep is very important for us . These measures will keep our brain healthy and we can make optimum use of our brain provided we take good care of it.
