What is Real Technology And What is Fantasy Technology?

The history of technology began around 3 million years ago with the invention of stone tools. Since then mankind has been gradually inventing some technology or the other. The rate of technological invention has been pretty rapid in the last 50 years or so in particular. Real technologies include or specialize in Web Development, IT services, Surveillance, Artificial Intelligence, complete IT solutions, etc. It has a lot of facets that are enticing and intriguing. Real technology is all those technologies that have a presence and are impacting us. Real technologies are already creating a buzz. They have proved their worth in this fast-growing international market having plenty of global players. The idea is to enhance quality service to the customers and in this regard, real technologies are nothing short of a boon.

The availability of real technologies has changed our outlook. We are so dependent on these technologies that for overcoming every challenge we tend to think, is there any technology available that can solve the problem or puzzle of life? The first thing we tend to search for when facing any unprecedented or unwanted situation is whether there is any ready-made solution to it being offered by technologies.

What is Fantasy?

Fantasy can be construed as imagining improbable things. You can also portray fantasy as a power that enables you to create unrealistic mental changes. Some people love to stay in a fantasy world while there is another set or group of people who don't find much merit in advocating or supporting fantasy, as they are realistic and practical. The role that you may not be able to play in your real life, you can imagine yourself in that role in a fantasy world. So it lets you daydream and reduce stress as well. Science fiction has the potential to motivate people to strive for new technologies and help them innovate. There is although a need to separate fiction from real-world technology. Both must be demarcated, however fantasy can inspire new technologies.

We should be able to clearly understand what is possible and what is mere fantasy so that informed decisions can be taken without getting trapped in fallacies. Reality and fantasy are two different realms. Real technology and fantasy technology converge on one point and that is, real technology is complemented by fantasy technology because our imagination acts as an inspiration to design and develop new technologies.

Difference Between Real Technology vs Fantasy Technology

Examples of real technologies are  Internet, robots, smartphones, computers, etc. Artificial intelligence ( AI) is used in virtual assistants like Siri etc and AI is used in other areas too like self-driving cars. Similarly, quantum technologies are being developed as well. These are examples of real-life use of real technologies.

When we talk about fantasy technologies, holographic displays can be included. Although the process of developing them in reality is ongoing, for the time being, we can consider them part of fantasy technology. The idea or sense of shifting people or objects from one place to another is known as teleportation, which is purely fiction, as we have not developed any substantial methodology or technology for achieving this feat.

A few more examples of fantasy technologies are time machines, mind-reading devices, and invisibility cloaks. Real technologies are visible in reality, and we use them as well, while fantasy technologies are visible in science fiction movies.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Read and Fantasy Technology

Real technology offers some distinct advantages. Real technology can provide a platform that helps people to work more effectively so real technology makes us more productive. Real technology is advantageous in the sense of enabling us to make the right decisions. Such technologies are useful in analyzing data and they can chip in with useful contributions in industries like training, education, and healthcare as well as some other leading industries. Earlier it was difficult to access a lot of documents and other official or research-related papers etc. Now technology has increased our reach and has made accessing such things pretty easy. Accessing information services is no longer challenging owing to the presence of modern/real technologies.  Technology takes care of complex or daunting tasks. This benefits the concerned manpower to divert their attention to other relevant tasks. So technology brings in more efficiency for manpower and the system as a whole. Technology has encouraged people to participate and obtain an advantage of the digital economy too.

Certain weaknesses have been spotted with fantasy technology. First up, we can see fantasy technologies are more of a waste of time, resources, manpower, and talent. Is it wise to invest in fantasy technologies? Perhaps, no certain answers can be given although it appears to be not a great strategy, but again it can have long-term benefits in unleashing modern technologies. Secondly, such technologies can create a fake impression or unrealistic expectations while dealing with certain problems leading to disappointment. Thirdly, it can defocus us from real problems like climate change, etc. Instead of resolving the problems in a pragmatic way, we tend to associate our energy and strive towards things that have no practical implications.

Conclusion

Both real technologies and fantasy technologies have facets that are worth looking into. Separating fact from fiction may help us to unleash the real power of technology and in the process, we can make this world a better place to live. We have to stay updated with new technologies so that we can extract the most out of such technologies. We should welcome new technologies and embrace them. Technology must be used as a means to address real problems and we should not mistreat any fantasy technology or dismiss such technologies outright, as it can unlock plenty of benefits in the long run which are beyond our current imagination.
